WATCH Documentary “13th” by Director Ava DuVernay (available free of charge on Netflix, or YouTube. https://youtu.be/1WU608Z2678). This incredible documentary explores the intersection of race, justice, and mass incarceration in the United States to provide the critical context and racist origins of today’s criminal justice system.
READ Chapter 6 BODY. How to Be an AntiRacist by Ibram X Kendi. Currently available to borrow as eBook or audiobook at https://library.arlingtonva.us. Uncovers the damage caused by “bodily racism”, the increasing criminalization of Black bodies—or, more specifically, the perpetuation of racist stereotypes against Black people that project the image of criminality onto them, and misdirects the true cause of violent crime: unemployment and poverty.
Our conversations and reflection will be guided by our shared faith. We believe that faith-based racial equity conversations have the potential to build important community connections which can lead to action and impact.
